Branson, MO on a budget

Review of the Red Lion Inn & Suites

Are you wondering where to stay in Branson, MO on a budget?

On a recent weekend getaway, I had the opportunity to travel to Branson, Missouri. Looking for a cheap place to stay for the weekend was important so that I didn’t spend too much. I found a good rate at the Red Lion Inn & Suites on Highway 76, the main street that runs through Branson.

Budget travel is very important for most people. The majority of people in the United States work all year long and get the opportunity for one vacation a year.  There may be occasions for a few weekend getaways, but for the most part, the yearly vacation is the important one. The ability to save money can give them the opportunity to get away a little more often.

This blog post will provide a review of the Red Lion Inn & Suites for those wishing to find a cheap stay in Branson. My first point is the name. Although there is nothing wrong with the name itself, it doesn’t properly describe the property. The Red Lion Inn is actually a motel, not a hotel, which is what I normally picture when I hear the words Inn & Suites. Not that a motel can’t have suites, but it just threw me off at first.

I will say, I’ve stayed in a lot of motels and hotels in my life, both good and bad, and I’ve learned not to make an impression based upon the name. I’ve stayed in some big-name hotels that have been a real letdown.

Arrival

I knew it would be late by the time I arrived since I had to work on Friday. It was nearly 9:30 pm when I pulled into the parking lot of the motel. It was located on the right side of the road near the Dixie Stampede. I felt the location was really good because it was near the entrance of Branson. I was hoping this would make it easier to get in and out of the parking lot. Currently, that was definitely not a problem. The roads were pretty empty at 9:30 pm.

I pulled into a parking spot and went inside to get checked in. The lobby area was cute and decorated for Christmas. The woman working at the desk was welcoming and helpful. She informed me where breakfast would be located and explained how to get to my room. Exhausted and hungry, I planned to get to my room and order something to eat.

My room was located around the back. I was able to find a good parking spot and headed upstairs to find my room.

The Room

Just a quick note to say that my daughter managed to pull back the sheets on the bed before I had a chance to take any pictures. I had her put it back, but she did not tuck it away neatly the way it was when we came into the room. So, I know the bed looks messy, but that wasn’t the motel’s fault.

The bed looked comfortable enough and the room was clean. I was quite happy with the appearance of the room.

My daughter’s first task when she gets into a room is to check the bed for signs of bed bugs. I’m happy to report that she did not see any indications of bed bugs on this bed.

The bathroom was basic and clean. They provided the usual toiletries. I personally have issues with scented toiletries because certain scents give me migraines. I always bring my own and try to avoid those that are scented. As it turns out, this motel did provide scented soaps and lotions. For most people, this would probably be a plus. The water pressure was good, so we were able to take a good shower without any problems.

The Results

Having had our showers and a meal, we were ready to relax and settle into bed. I know that no bed is as good as home, but let me tell you, I had a really good night’s sleep at this motel. I was pleasantly surprised. The last few places I’ve stayed have left my back aching and me wishing for my bed at home. One of those places was a Hilton hotel, which was very disappointing. So, when a motel is able to let me rest and wake up with no backache, I am a happy camper, to say the least.

Now, I did not eat the complimentary breakfast, so I cannot speak about the quality of the food there.

The motel also offers a workout room and an outdoor pool and a hot tub, although the pool and hot tub were closed for the winter.

The second night was just as comfortable as the first. The checkout process was easy and the staff was again pleasant and friendly.

Now, this motel is not for someone who is concerned with looks or is expecting more than a budget motel has to offer. If you are a picky person, you may want to go elsewhere. But, if what you are looking for is a budget-friendly motel that is clean and bug-free, then you may want to check out the Red Lion Inn & Suites.
